Sensus Customer Portal: What Small Water Utilities on FlexNet Can Use

Fluvio Team·October 19, 2026·4 min read

If your utility reads Sensus FlexNet meters, you can give residents a customer portal from Sensus or from an independent provider that loads your FlexNet reads. Fluvio Resident is an independent Sensus customer portal option built for utilities under about 30,000 meters: it shows residents their water use and leak alerts under your utility's name, and it works alongside the billing system you already have.

This page is for utility directors, superintendents and billing managers who are looking at their Sensus portal options and want a plain answer on what residents should get, what your staff should get, and what it takes to switch on.

What a Sensus customer portal should give residents

Your FlexNet meters already collect the data. A good portal turns it into answers residents would otherwise call the office for:

  • Usage by hour, day and month, so a resident can see when water was used, not just how much.
  • Leak and high-use alerts by text or email, with alert levels the resident can set.
  • An estimated next bill, based on your rates, so there are fewer surprise-bill calls.
  • A comparison to similar homes, which helps residents judge whether their use is normal.
  • English and Spanish.
  • Bill pay through the payment system you already use.

What your staff should get

The office side matters as much as the resident side. In Fluvio Resident, staff see alerts across every account in one place, the history for each account, staff roles so each person sees what they need, and an activity log of who did what.

If you add Resident Plus, an AI phone and text agent answers resident calls 24/7, logs every call, and turns reports like a leak, brown water or low pressure into a work order for your crew.

How an independent portal works with Sensus FlexNet

You don't change meters or replace your billing system. Fluvio loads the read export your Sensus system already produces on a schedule, matches each read to the account in your billing data, and shows it to the resident. Reads appear in the portal daily.

Because the portal isn't tied to one meter brand, it also helps if part of your town is on another meter type after a phased change-out. Fluvio also loads Neptune, Badger, Itron and Kamstrup exports, plus monthly AMR files, so every resident can use the same portal.

Sensus's own portal vs. an independent portal

A meter vendor's portal is built around that vendor's meter data. That works well for showing usage. Utilities usually look at an independent portal when they also want:

  • usage and the estimated bill in one login,
  • one portal for every meter brand in town,
  • an AI phone and text line that creates work orders, and
  • a portal that carries the utility's own name and colors.

Ask any provider, including us, to show these live with your own data before you decide.

What it takes to get started

  1. Data: send a sample of your Sensus read export and your billing account file.
  2. Setup: we match meters to accounts, set alert levels, and brand the portal with your name and colors.
  3. Training: your office staff learn the alert view and account history.
  4. Launch: invite residents with bill inserts, mailers or your website. You can start with one route or part of town first.

Typical time from kickoff to launch: ~60 days

Common questions

Do we need to replace our Sensus meters?

No. Fluvio uses the reads your FlexNet system already collects.

Does it work if we still read Sensus meters by drive-by?

Monthly reads can load into the portal so residents see monthly use.

Is Fluvio SOC 2 certified?

Fluvio's SOC 2 audit is in process.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on the number of accounts. See our pricing page or ask us for a quote.
